Just two years after its establishment in the University of the Philippines Manila campus, the Manila chapter has produced many student leaders since 1990.

From the nine founding members, the sorority has grown to many batches of ladies who are one in upholding the sorority's principles of Truth, Reason and Justice. Lofty guidelines which has always set each ladies' standard in work, lifestyle and family.

Medical mission Sigma Alpha Nu Sorority

Sigma Alpha Nu Manila stands proud of its achievements ranging from legal-medical-dental missions in depressed areas, legal and financial assistance to abused women,  projects which benefit the sick and our myriad of alumni achievers- graduates of different medical and bachelor of arts courses, from the elusive 7-year medicine course INTARMED, to law even to I.T. 

In all endeavors, the mark of excellence indeed!

In the words of Vince Lombardi, "It is time for us all to stand and cheer for the doer, the achiever — the one who recognizes the challenge and does something about it,” .  The Sisters of the Sigma Alpha Nu Sorority Manila continues to uphold the goals of Nationalism, Academic Excellence, Leadership and Uplift of Women, and take pride in  the following Sisters who have shown exemplary performance in their chosen professions, passions, academics and extra-curricular activities:
 
  • Djoanivie Jomare Agarin Junasa, Batch 2005-A Manila and Maria Kristine Rose Maigue David, Batch 2005-D Manila, class of 2007, joins the sorority's growing list of Cum Laude graduates.
  • Dr. Marie Antoinette  Rios de Castro 90-E Manila, earned her Masters Degree in Public Health at her former college in UPM. She is also the Chief Resident of Internal Medicine at St. Luke's Medical Center, and graduated cum laude from the College of Medicine at UST.
  • Dr. Katrina Duque 88-B Manila, INTARMED '94 based in Chicago finished her residency in anesthesiology at the University of Illinois in Chicago (UIC). She made it Top 7 in the US Medical board.
  • Dr. Marie Aleli Rios de Castro-David 89-C Manila, graduated cum laude and placed 10th in the medical board exams
  • Dr. Karen Agustin Nicolas 94-C Manila graduated Top 7 in her batch at UERMMMC

The Philippine Physical Therapy Association (PPTA) awarded Prof. Elizabeth Martinez-Grageda 89-B Manila, MHPEd, PTRP as PRC's Most Outstanding Professional (MOP) in the field of physical therapy for 2006. Prof. Grageda is currently faculty and College Secretary of the National Teacher Training Center for the Health Professions (NTTC - HP) of UP Manila, where she also obtained her graduate degree. Prior to her academic appointment, she was the longtime head of the Physical Therapy Section of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine - Philippine General Hospital. Prof. Grageda is a BSPT alumna of the UP College of Allied Medical Professions.

  • Dr. Sheila Anne Ducusin Leonor 2001-A Manila ranked 6th in the dentistry board.
  • Sharon Yvette Angelina Manalo Villanueva 92-C Manila, a consistent scholar since her Masters at the Kyushu University of Japan  graduated last September with a Doctor of Philosophy (Medical Science) degree.
  • Atty. Valerie Anne Hain Hollero 88-A Manila, a recent bar passer was given a citation by the Public Attorney's Office for consistently winning her cases.
  • Myrna Matas Hadjirul, 90-A Manila, BS Special Education '93, was awarded by The U.S. House of Representatives a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for community service in Special Education. She is also the first Filipino teacher that was awarded with the "You Make A Difference Award" 2006 by Governor Schwarzeneger in the West Contra Costa Unified School District and granted a Mini Ed Fund Grant 2004 for an innovative Enterpreneur Cooking Class and Hospitality Cafe run by her Severely Handicapped Special Ed Students. This award is given to persons or organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the lives of special education students. One who has demonstrated contributions above and beyond their role on their job description.
  • Kelly Legaspi 93-B has been a consistent Vice President of the Philippine Nurses Association of Manitoba, Canada.
  • Abigail Kathleen  M. Acosta 92-B Manila, Chairperson, University Student Council, UP Manila, 1994-1995 • USC Councilor, 1993-1994, Chairperson, National Federation of Student Councils (NFSC), 1996-1997
  • Mariele Feliz Flores, 2003-B Manila was No. 1 USC Councilor, 2005-2006
  • Maria Janina Dioso Baybay 2006-A Manila was No. 2 USC Councilor in 2007.
  • Dr.Ma. Katherina  de Leon Lat-Herrin 89-C Manila, MD, Diplomate, Philippine Dermatological Society) former Chief Resident of Dermatology at UERMMC. Earned her Fellowship at Ackerman Academy of Dermatopathology in New York, USA.
  • Liza Sta. Isabel 88-C Manila BSOT'94 former Director of Facility Rehabilitation at the Matagorda General Hospital at Bay City, Texas, is now with The Institute of Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR ) in Houston. She is now a part of a model Spinal Cord Unit at the Texas Medical Center, which is the largest medical center in the world.
  • Juvy Macapagal 2007-B Manila,  councilor of the U.P. Manila University Student Council 2008-2009, was a recipient of the Rotary Youth Leadership Award of 2007 and has held numerous leadership positions in the sorority, council and other organizations.
  • Mary de Guzman 2007-C Manila, Rep-at-Large for the College of Arts and Sciences Student Council 2009-2010,  is a consistent College Scholar since 2006 and was a delegate for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award.
  • Atty. Maria Bernadette Carrasco 88-C Manila, FOUNDED in 1994 the National Federation of Students of the Philippines. She also held the positions of USC Chairperson/ KASAMA sa UP Chairperson, 1991-1992 and NUSP-NCR Chairperson, 1992-1993. She was also a nominee for the position of UP Student Regent back in 1992.
  • Ann Arbor Montessori's vice president for Internal affairs, Atty. Christine de Lino Carpio-Mintu of 88-A Manila after achieving her Masters of Law from the Boston University of Massachusetts, banks her confidence on the youth. Click to read more.
  • The short story of Mike Pura Portes 88-A Manila, "Minsan may Isang Puta", which has been studied in high schools, universities and colleges for Filipino, PolSci and Theater 12 subjects is published in WRITINGS 8 alongside articles of Gel Santos Relos, Dr. Cesar Candari, Gawad Kalinga's Tony Meloto and more. Each purchase of the paperback at amazon.com contributes in giving piglets to deserving rural families. The piece also won the film grant to be included in an Indie trilogy "Ganap na Babae" (International title: Garden of Eve). The movie was honored as Cinemalaya 2010's opening film and recently won the MIENT'S PICK: Excellence in Cinematography Award at the SoHo Film Festival in New York which recognizes the technical mastery of the movie.
