Christmas is a time for sharing and loving, and last December 20, 2008, the Diliman Chapter
held a Jollibee Christmas Party
with the Sintang Kabataan Kids.
Sintang Kabataan is an organization led by volunteer teachers
who gather street children from Quezon City into bi-monthly teaching sessions in
a small classroom built at St. Paul Church in Timog, Quezon City. These
volunteers are just ordinary teachers sacrificing their time and money to
educate these homeless children. Just this year, their classroom had been taken
away from them when the new priest and a new set of church administrators came.
Four of the five volunteers left Sintang Kabataan earlier this year. The only
one left , Teacher Marge marcial is now suffering from a kidney disease and had
to cut down some activities. She now makes her own house the new classroom for
the kids and teaches them every first and third Sunday of the month. She really
needs support from other people to continue her advocacy.

Celebrating Christmas the NU
way
by Anna Katrina Palac
08a-Diliman

The 20th of December proved to be a very special day for both the Sigma Alpha Nu
Sorority and the kids of Sintang Kabataan. It was a day that indeed put the
“merry” in Christmas!
The Diliman residents organized a simple yet fun Christmas party for 27 Sintang
Kabataan kids at Jollibee East Avenue. It was a day of laughter and surprises.
The children played several parlor games and were treated to a hefty lunch
after. The event reached its climax during the Jollibee mascot’s appearance
where the kids evidently had tons of fun partying with the dancing mascot.
The event was capped off by the gift-giving where the kids received notebooks,
pens, and other stuff to use for school together with clothes and shiny, happy,
colorful, new slippers.
It was a very rewarding experience. Nuans proved (yet again) that nothing beats
the feeling of accomplishing worthwhile endeavors. The kids’ grateful and
beautiful smiles were clear reminders of the real reason why we celebrate
Christmas. It was truly a humbling and inspiring experience. The event only
proved that indeed, the greatest of joys can be found even in the simplest of
things.
